It has been a while hasn’t it? The Leadership members have been busy busy!
To celebrate the Summer and drag the Geeks out into this fine(hot) weather, we have decided to have a cookout and a movie! This will be a potluck dinner at the home of a founder of Geek South, Jose Castillo. The plan is to socialize and eat, while we are hanging out and then as the sun goes down we will be watching a movie. Bring a Dish to share. Time to catch-up and visit with our low tech day. Games to be play outside GEEKS bring your sunscreen! :-)

RSVP: It is very important that we have a head count, so please leave a comment on the website post indicating if you are coming and what side you are bringing.

While at this event there will have to be some discussion about the meetings for the remainder of the year. It has grown increasingly difficult to keep the meetings going monthly. Our discussion will about shifting to a bi-monthly meeting or perhaps quarterly. Be thinking of this and be prepared to discuss.

The format will be a dialogue / discussion based on an outline of themes.  Everyone is encouraged to bring their skepticism and their questions.  The main topics will be:

1. What is the status of Artificial Intelligence today?  What is intelligence anyway?

2. What are the potential benefits and harm of AI?

3. What are the philosophical implications of AI and the evolution of intelligence?

4. What is technological acceleration? Where do we see this taking place?

5. Other!

    About Meet The Geeks:

    Meet the Geeks is an all-volunteer organization focused on providing a common contact point for the IT industry in North Carolina. Projects range from casual socializing at bi-monthly get-togethers to the development the Meet the Geeks website which includes the IT Directory and Forums.  Our goal is to build a network of professionals across the all IT sectors – from development to recruiting, programming to capital – that promotes relationships and the cross-pollenization of ideas that will foster growth in Western North Carolina.

    Their September meeting will be Wednesday, September 24th from 5:30 to 7:30 at Scully’s in Downtown Asheville (see below for map).

    From my fellow GeekSouth folks I need two things:

    First → RSVP if you are going or thinking about it so I can let the Meet The Geeks people know. You can do this by posting a comment on this writeboard page (password geeks).
