I have access to Google WAVE and I have just started to use it some. I'm not sure about it. The videos on how to use Google WAVE shows some useful and slick things to do with it, but since there is limited access to Google WAVE, I haven't been able to really interact with the folks that I know on it, like I would like. So we'll see how things go.

Anyone else got their invite for Google Wave yet? Had mine for a couple of weeks now and I'm still trying to figure out if it will be useful for me. So far its purpose has been only for day long running jokes between everyone in the office.

That said I could see it being useful for collaboration between people on specific projects. A presentation, a document, code reviews, etc... This article, so far, gives the best rundown on where Google Wave could be useful. And I tend to agree with his thought that if you look at Google Wave as a <i>social media</i> tool (like Twitter or Facebook) you are going to be disappointed.

I was talking to Jose about this the other day. I got selected for one of those Windows 7 House Parties. I'm offering my place up for a "Windows 7 Pick Apart" where can play with Win7 and see what kind of crazy things they send for the "House Party."

It would be the usual bring a dish thing.

I agree with the fresh start. Also, we might need to promote the forum a little more to get the conversation rolling.

I agree it was a killer location. We should address the gamers trying to use the facility directly before we use the space again. I don't think they were too distracting, but I think maybe we were a little distracting, or off-putting.

I like the idea. I was definitely able to hear the presentation, there was food and beer was available. I know that we like to rotate the meetings so people who can't travel to JC can make it to some of the other meetings. But the pros of having a good location compared to the cons of trying to locate somewhere to be heard are a little greater. I say we pitch this idea to all the main coordinators and to the group next meeting.

Hey everybody!
If you didn't make it to the GeekSouth meeting at Thunderdome, you missed a good one!
I'd like to propose that as a semi-permanent or at least fairly frequent venue.
The atmosphere is perfect for geeks and as long as they will tolerate us practically taking over their facility for the meeting. Contrast that to the places where we are stuck in a corner and barely tolerated and our presenters have to shout to be heard.
Comments?

So I got bbPress installed here last night (with Wordpress integration). It, obviously, is a stock install and is not skinned in anyway. Something we can work on at some point I guess.

So if you already have a login to www.geeksouth.com you are set, just login and post away.

So what do we use this for? That's up to you... I've created a couple of groups for Job and Gig postings if your company has an opening suitable for a Geek or you know of someone needing some contract or part-time geeky help.

One Note: Those of you who use OpenID to login to www.geeksouth.com. I have OpenID setup on this bbPress install, however the integration with Wordpress isn't great. I had to initially login to bbPress with you username/password and then setup my OpenID within bbPress. If you having problems, you can email me the email address associated with your account and I'll see if I can get it setup. Will be looking to make this better at some point when there is time.

Another Note: The old forum data is still around, if there are people who feel incredibly strong about moving those posts over here I can probably get them migrated with a bit of sql-fu. Otherwise I say we make a fresh start.
