Asheville Geeks Learn Launch Secrets
Before there was GeekSouth, I used to drive down to Asheville to their Meet The Geeks evenings. Their good idea and Jose’s drive and enthusiasm were largely the geneisi of GeekSouth. Thursday night they have put together a great event. I plan to drive down if I can get my day to cooperate. (email dave@zfx.com if you want to carpool!) Here are the specs:
Join us for a special Meet the Geeks Get Together on Thursday, September 28th. Starting at 5:30pm, we’ll have casual socializing with other IT professionals, plus members of the Media Arts Project (MAP) and the Blue Ridge Entrepreneurial Council (BREC). Then at 6:30pm, Jay Turner from Red Hat will speak about how to launch a new product. RSVP to rsvp@meetthegeeks.net or read on for more info…Launching a new product can be a harrowing experience. You work day and night improving it, fixing problems, testing it with customers. Walking the balance between being a perfectionist and sending a defective product out the door is not easy. How do you know when your product is ready to ship?
Come see Jay Turner, Manager of Quality Engineering at Red Hat, speak about developing a quality product and learn how to:
- Test your product for bugs,
- Ensure your product is easy to use for your target audience, and
- Determine when your product is ready to ship.
As a case study example, Jay will also talk about the development of Red Hat’s recently launched social networking site Mugshot and how he used quality assurance to create a successful launch for Red Hat.
So join us on Thursday, September 28th at “On Broadway” located at 49 Broadway Avenue in the heart of downtown Asheville for this joint event between Meet the Geeks, MAP and BREC. The event starts at 5:30pm and Jay will speak at 6:30pm. As always, the event is free and we’ll have free food with a cash bar. To attend, RSVP to rsvp@meetthegeeks.net.
About Jay Turner: Jay was born and raised in North Carolina, graduating from UNC with a BS in Applied Science in 1996. While at UNC, he stumbled upon the fast maturing Linux kernel and GNU operating system components and began to use those in his coursework. Jay joined the Red Hat Quality Engineering team in December 1998 as the lead test engineering for the installer. Three years later he, and 4 other engineers, built and launched the Red Hat Network subscription service offering. Jay then returned to the operating system side of the company as a QE manager where his team focuses on test automation, qualification of the kernel for all Red Hat products as well as test integration with Red Hat’s software and hardware partners. In his spare time, Jay enjoys trying to keep up with his two sons, photography and cycling. He and his family also enjoy the quest of travel.
