Cork’d: Social networking for wine lovers

I know. These days it seems like there’s a new social networking website launched every 10 seconds or so, and most of them just rehash what sites like LiveJournal and MySpace have been doing, with varying degrees of competency, for years. About a month ago, however, I discovered a new social networking site that is not only clever and somewhat different, but downright useful.

Cork’d is a social networking site based on wine. Users can search for and review wines they’ve tried, learn about other wines they might enjoy, and check out wines that their “drinking buddies” (i.e., friends) have tried. Cork’d allows users to keep track of wines they own, create a wine shopping list, and recommend wines to friends. It’s a much simpler and more useful way of keeping track of the wines you tried and liked than, say, trying to keep track of saved wine labels.

You can check out my Cork’d page here.

Cool site! Great way find a good wine. Especially for people, ie. me, who know nothing about wine.

Cork’d got a mention in this month’s issue of Imbibe magazine. While a dead tree media this is a pretty cool mag that covers darned near everything worth imbibing, from coffee to absinthe. Check it out next time you are at B&N.
