Podcasting - A Visual Explanation
I made an explanatory diagram of “What is Podcasting?” for the first Geek Dinner Dec 21. It was to answer that question that the uninitiated always have in a complete way. I’ve uploaded the .jpg file with this post. See what you think - it might be useful someone you know.
I still find “podcasting” a confusing term, falsely implying that it’s tied to one company’s hardware. I’ve seen “internet radio” used (and heard it used on Bandwagon Radio ) and I think I prefer that, although that could sound as if it’s only available at a scheduled time. Anybody have other options/opinions?

I like “audio blogging” personally. I think it’s about the most accurate sounding term I’ve heard.
Also Google’s Reader will play RSS enclosures if you click the player on the screen so that makes it seem so much more like blogging.

I hate the term Podcast, but I’m not 100% sure that I love Audio Blogging either. Simply because most of the podcasts that I listen to aren’t really the equivalent to an audio version of a blog post. Most all of those that I listen to are more like actual radio shows. Like something I’d heard on NPR or whatever.

Great thread — I’ve always found that when explaining a podcast to the uninitiated, there is a look of confusion until I say “it’s an Internet radio show”. Then they get it. Or confuse it with satellite radio….
